As more and more designers continue to relocate their New York Fashion Week show venues, Ralph Lauren is the latest to follow suit. But instead of heading to Los Angeles or Paris, the designer is venturing upstate. The garage houses Lauren's personal automobile collection, which will serve as the backdrop to the runway. One of the most expensive car collections in the world , Lauren's rare automobiles include Ferraris, Bugattis and Bentleys dating back to the '20s and '30s. To coincide with the masculine-meets-feminine theme, the brand will also be showing its Ralph Lauren Purple Label menswear collection alongside its womenswear for the first time.
Tonight, Ralph Lauren returns to the runway to deliver his Fall collection. The iconic American designer takes inspiration from his famed car collection for his latest offering that reinvents modern menswear patterns on women's silhouettes. This fusion is designed to put forth a powerful vision of femininity. The show will be complete with both men's and women's looks that will be available for purchase at ralphlauren. The presentation will be held in Lauren's own garage, and will have models walking beside his multi-million dollar collection of classic vehicles. Aside from the inspiration, not much else is known about Lauren's forthcoming runway show.
Plenty of fashion shows have been staged in garages over the years, but the one that took place Tuesday night in Bedford, N. There is a sleekness, an innate sexiness and power to shapes sculpted out of high-tech patent leathers and high-gloss silks. That meant lots of pieces that gleamed and shined like chromed fenders — red patent leather trench coats, patent leather bustiers paired with skirts of layered tulle, blazing yellow cashmere trench coats, and glittery, form-fitting dresses color-blocked from armpit to ankle with wide, racing-stripe-inspired bands of blue. The racing motif was evident here too, cropping up in a black leather jacket with a Monte Carlo race car graphic across the front, racing-yellow tuxedo-trouser side stripes, and black, one-piece coveralls that no old-school grease monkey could possibly afford. Ralph Lauren didn't unveil his ready-to-wear spring collection on a traditional runway at New York Fashion Week Thursday. Instead, he took over his Madison Avenue flagship store and transformed it into an "oasis" with a "botanical installation" covering every wall of the first and second floors. The collection as a whole can best be described as neutral perfection with pops of jewel tones. While Kendall Jenner walked down the runway in white pants, a low-cut white blouse and a long beige blazer, Bella Hadid was donning a sateen-like, rust-orange, loose-fitting shirtdress. Lauren essentially took the models from day to night, with pieces ranging from a casual tan drawstring jumpsuit -- that looks just comfortable enough to nap in, but chic enough to wear with heels -- to a show-stopping sateen purple one-shoulder gown with sexy cut-outs.
