Giro d'Italia: Demare wins stage 10
Tuesday 21 May - At kilometres, the 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia travels from Ravenna to Modena. The route is pan-flat, so this is a perfect opportun.2017
The route is pan-flat, so this is a perfect opportunity for fast finishers. Ravenna has not been included in recent years. In fact, in and the town in the northeastern part of Italy served as a finish. On both occasions the race came down to a sprint — in , Alessandro Petacchi powered to the win, and in it was Mark Cavendish who outgunned the bunch. This time the Giro starts in Ravenna, although the outcome is likely to be the same. Following kilometres on the flat the riders arrive in Modena.
Up to this point I was not aware of Chef Massimo Bottura and his brilliant food. I said to him that, even, if I was to just fly out to Modena , especially to eat there. This was how much the creations of Chef Bottura touched me. I loved, his enthusiasm, his creative mind, his use of local produce, his excitement, his way of treating people, his love for what he does. His food looked absolutely amazing, it was like looking at art but on a plate and eating it.
Wednesday, May 18, — At kilometres, stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia leads the riders from supersportscar-town Modena to Asolo. Expect fast men with an appetite for an occasional climb to detonate the fireworks as the stage is mostly flat, except for the finale. Back then, Vincenzo Nibali was strongest after a course with a few mighty mountains. No high mountains in the stage to Asolo this time. In fact it is as flat as can be until the Forcella Mostaccin, crested with kilometres done. The climb is 2. A technical descent takes the riders to a series of undulations and then to a 1 kilometre ramp leading into Asolo.
The Frenchman, who finished second in Orbetello on stage 3 and third in Terracina on stage 5, claimed the first Giro stage win of his career with a powerful sprint from a front group of 12 that emerged when maglia ciclamino Ackermann touched wheels and crashed heavily under the one-kilometre to go banner. Ackermann, winner on stages 1 and 5, crossed the line with skinsuit shredded and road rash all down his left side. He gingerly stepped onto the podium to collect the maglia ciclamino, but his lead in the points classification has been reduced to one point by Demare, who also hit out at the first of two intermediate sprints. Given the crash occurred inside the final three kilometres, there were no time gaps given in the peloton and Valerio Conti UAE Team Emirates retained his overall lead, with Primoz Roglic Jumbo-Visma still in second and the best-placed of the pre-race favourites. Ackermann at one point jokingly signaled for rotation in a small group that had clipped away to contest the first intermediate sprint. It was that kind of day. Deceuninck-QuickStep were also prominent with Pieter Serry.
The Giro d'Italia will begin with an 8. RCS Sport confirmed Bologna as host of the Grande Partenza on Monday, and also revealed full details of two further stages in the Emilia-Romagna region later in the race, including a longer time trial to San Marino on stage 9. Bologna has been the site of the Grande Partenza on one previous occasion, in , when Endrio Leoni won the morning road stage before the late Armand De Las Cuevas took over the maglia rosa in the afternoon time trial. Stage 2 of the Giro will also start from Bologna, though further details will not be announced until the route is presented in full later this year. It is anticipated that the race will visit southern Italy during the first week before travelling north again along the Adriatic coast and revisiting the Emilia-Romagna region on stages 9 and RCS Sport announced on Monday that stage 9 will be a demanding
