UFC Presents: Aldo vs. Faber , also referred to as WEC Aldo vs. Jamie Varner was expected to face Kamal Shalorus at this event,  but that bout was called off due to an injury sustained by Shalorus. A bout between Alex Karalexis and Zach Micklewright was due to take place at this event, but Micklewright suffered a broken ankle  and was later replaced by Anthony Pettis. Antonio Banuelos was scheduled to face Damacio Page at the event, but Page was forced off the card with an injury. Banuelos ending up facing Scott Jorgensen, in a rematch of their bout from WEC 41 which Banuelos won via split decision. He was replaced by Leonard Garcia.
Faber took a total of 31 kicks to the legs. The fighter admitted that he was in a lot of pain, starting near the beginning of the fight when Aldo got some good kicks in. Towards the end of the fight Faber was limping and unable to fight his best. Afterward he said that he felt like passing out, several tests where done and he has no broken bones. As to the comments that have been made about his loss, Saber said he was fighting a world class fighter that got an advantage in the first round.
Faber switches stances and misses with a right hand. He then rushes in and misses with his first take down attempt. Aldo gets clipped with a right hook, misses with an uppercut and then again with a left. He connects with a knee up the middle. Faber gets separation with a push front kick and Aldo hits with a spinning back kick as the round ends.
